Real Beauty Fitness

Fitness and beauty can be one and the same. Being fit and healthy will automatically make you look better. A healthy inside creates a healthy outside.

Fitness through exercise can help you to maintain a healthy body weight and improve muscle tone.

Our looks reflect the sum total of who we are and how we live, and the best we can do in life is to make the best of what nature has given is, without excuse, apology, or pretense. If we try to live otherwise, we find ourselves acting on a stage with other actors and actresses--great pretenders without real friends, without real lovers, without real relationships.

While we realize that there is such a thing as "natural beauty," which is beyond all standards of culture and history in some sense, there are also "relative" standards of beauty.

We all know about fads, styles, and adornments that are "in" one season and "out" the next. This includes cosmetics, hair styles, clothing, and even body weight and size.

These standards may vary from country to country, year to year, or even among different age groups in the same country and year.

For example, full figures are considered the ideal in some historical periods, but slender figures are valued now--at least in Western countries.

The point is that cultural standards change--and we may choose to follow or ignore them--because the cultivation of natural beauty is not dependent upon fads.

In order to get along harmoniously, whether at the level of dating, courtship, or marriage, men and women have to get past physical looks and into the more important qualities that make up human relationships, such as kindness, friendship, and areas of mutual interest.

There is such a thing as a beautiful personality. There can be beauty in the way a person thinks. An attitude or smile can be beautiful. Love is certainly beautiful, and all of life is beautiful when we are in love.

A person is truly beautiful when he or she is healthy. Any disease or illness affects all parts of the body, sometimes for many years before the symptoms are manifested. If the body and mind are not healthy, then a person cannot feel or be truly attractive.

Good health brings a glow to the skin, a ring to the voice, a twinkle to the eye, and a spring to the step that no beauty school can teach.

The Ultimate Beauty Tip: Good Posture

When you think of projecting a professional image, do you consider your posture? Most people don't think of it, but the way we stand, sit, and move affects just how professional we look. So, if we take the time to wear the clothing that best suits us, get the most flattering hairstyle and perfect our makeup, then it would make sense that we wouldn't want to ruin our look by having poor posture. And that's what poor posture will do ? it will ruin an otherwise professional look.

There are other advantages to having good posture:

1. Good posture will boost self-confidence. Try this: take a deep breath and stand straight. Do you feel better? More confident?

2. Good posture opens your diaphragm making your voice sound better.

3. It improves your health by allowing your organs to function more easily.

4. It also makes you look slimmer, younger and your clothes look better.

To know if you have good posture stand sideways in front of a full-length mirror and stand as you do naturally. Is your:

* Neck straight

* Shoulders square

* Tummy in

* Feet pointing forward

Or do you have:

* Slopped shoulders

* Drooping bust

* Chest caved in

To achieve good posture you must make it a habit by keeping your shoulders back, abdomen pulled in, your head lifted and chin parallel to the ground. This won't be easy if you are not used to it because you will have to build the muscles that keep your body in the correct position. It will take patience and practice. When you make a decision to work on your posture don't expect it to happen overnight but rest assured it will improve and you will see and feel the difference.

Sheila Dicks is an Image and Wardrobe consultant who helps women learn how to dress to suit their body type and look slimmer. Revision Rhinoplasty

Revision rhinoplasty occurs when any further surgery is required on a nose to either repair poorly executed surgery, to correct some irregularity from a previous surgery or to hide scars or other surgical marks from a previous rhinoplasty. The important factors guiding revision rhinoplasty are:

1. How the nose looks now
2. What is the problem/irregularity that needs to be addresses/repaired
3. How much scarring is present from previous surgeries
4. The mental state of the patient requesting the revisions, i.e., is he/she an unsatisfiable perfectionist, a surgery junkie, or psychologically unbalanced in any way that is causing an unjustifiable surgical request
5. Is the problem correctable

If all of these factors are in order, then a patient who is not satisfied with her previous rhinoplasty is now requesting a second rhinoplasty from either the same surgeon who performed the primary rhinoplasty or a surgeon who specializes in revision rhinoplasty. A surgeon who specializes in revision rhinoplasty is specially trained in the field and it is important to ask pertinent questions of any surgeon who is offering to do this work for you. While it is rare for a nose to be completely beyond repair, it is important to analyze the patient's motivation behind requesting multiple surgeries.

According to statistical analysis, revision rhinoplasty procedures need to be performed in 17% of the total number of primary rhinoplasty surgeries in the United States. However, it is important to note that a large percentage of the cases, a very small irregularity, or bump is the specific cause of the revision rhinoplasty and for the most part, these are predominately office procedures done on an outpatient basis and for a very small fee. It is the rare case that requires extensive revision rhinoplasty work unless something, for some reason, has gone awry. Furthermore, the majority of the remaining &quot;clean up&quot; cases are the result of those rare instances when the patient himself has caused some damage to the nose after surgery by falling, bumping the nose or some other physical trauma requiring surgical attention.

As rare as it may be, some patients have decided after rhinoplasty that their nose is now too small for their face and that it was not the fault of the primary physician but in their own request for changes. In these instances, revisionary surgeons can add tissue, spread the nostrils a bit, stretch the cartilage and expand the nose to more properly fit the face. There is almost no condition of the nose that cannot be fixed, repaired or improved. Other instances of requests for revision rhinoplasty have to do when patients request a certain &quot;look&quot; for a new nose. They bring in a photo of a celebrity or a historical figure and request a nose identical to the one in the photo. And even when the computer imaging does not justify the look they demand to look just like their favorite celebrity. Oftentimes the final result simply does not look good on them and they seek out a trained revision rhinoplastic surgeon to make their nose look &quot;normal&quot; again, that is, to restore it to it's original state. As bizarre as this sounds, it is quite common for patients to receive exactly what they wanted and then to change their minds afterwards.

Colored Contact Lenses - How to Choose the Color That is Best for You

You want colored contact lenses but you aren't sure which color would be best for you? Here are some tips that should help you select your best color.

First of all there are two major types of colored contacts - enhancement color lenses and opaque lenses. Enhancement lenses are suitable for people with light eyes only, and are designed to make your own color brighter or give it a slightly different hue. For example: a person with naturally green eyes can wear blue enhancement color lenses and get most beautiful aqua effect.

Opaque lenses are designed for a more dramatic change. Whether you have light or dark eyes, opaque lenses are not transparent, so they completely replace the natural color of your eyes with the color of the lens. What type and color of colored lenses to select depends on the effect you want to achieve.

You want your eye color to get brighter, but you don't want to startle everybody who knows you with a different color

<ul> <li>In this case, if you have light blue eyes, choose blue or aqua enhancement color contacts. You can also try Freshlook Radiance in Eden or Moonlight, which gives your eye an 'illuminated' effect.</li>

<li>If your natural color is gray or blue-gray, try blue from Acuvue 2 Colors or Freshlook Dimensions, to get a beautiful ocean blue color. If you feel more adventurous, go for jade green. Green eyes are quite rare, so you can make a statement with your new color.</li>

<li>If your eyes are brown, none of the enhancement color contacts would work for you. Try brown opaque lenses, which will make your color more defined, or hazel, which would make them lighter. You can also consider Freshlook Radiance Sunrise (lighter) or Autumn (darker), to add shimmer to your eyes.</li> </ul>

Do you want to try something dramatically different from your natural color?

<ul> <li>In this case opaque color lenses like Freshlook Colorblends, Acuvue 2 Colors opaques or Illusions by Ciba Vision would be your best choice.v

<li>If you have dark eyes and dark hair, try blue or amethyst colors, like True Sapphire or Amethyst from Freshlook Colorblends collection. Amethyst looks extremely daring and sophisticated, because this color is very rare in nature. You can also try green color contacts; they would look especially good if your hair is red. For most people, green eyes are associated with sexiness and creativity.</li>

<li>If your eyes are naturally a cool blue or gray color, try honey color contacts. Honey eyes are associated with intelligence, warmth and trustworthiness. You can reinforce the warm effect by wearing warm colors.</li>

<li>Most people with dark skin naturally have brown eyes, so by selecting blue or green lenses you will attract a lot of attention.</li> </ul>

To emphases the change, wear a new outfit, different in style and color from the clothes you usually wear. And to create a completely new image, change your hairstyle as well.

If you still not sure which color is best for you, ask your doctor to prescribe you disposable color lenses. Color contact lenses can be either annual replacement - you wear them for a year - or disposable - they come in boxes of six and you replace them every 2 weeks or every month. Disposable lenses are not very expensive - particularly if you buy them online - so you can try several different colors. The lenses mentioned in this article, Freshlook and Acuvue 2 Colors, are disposable color contact lenses.

Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck) Information

Abdominoplasty, commonly known as a tummy tuck, is a major surgical procedure for men and women generally in good shape and health but who have large fat deposits around their abdomen or have and excess of loose skin. Abdominoplasty can reduce protruding abdominal fat but it does leave a lengthy, permanent, sometimes visible scar that runs the length of the hipbones. Also during abdominoplasty, the vertical muscles of the abdomen are tightened.

Often, people who have abdominoplasty surgery are women who don't intend to bear more children and whose previous pregnancies stretched their abdominal muscles or people suffering from obesity whose skin elasticity has diminished.

During the procedure patients are either given a sedative and local anesthesia or general anesthesia. An incision is made between the hipbones and around the belly button. Then the skin is separated from the abdominal wall and lifted over the vertical abdominal muscles. These muscles are then sewn together to tighten them. Next the skin is stretched down and flattened and the remaining skin left over the incision is cut away and the skin flap is sewn into its new place.

After surgery, supportive garments should be worn and after three weeks all sutures will have been removed. Post-operative exercise is encouraged to tone the muscles and healthy lifestyle and diet is encouraged to maintain the results.

While abdominoplasty leaves a significant scar, it doesn't show under most clothes and under some swim suits and most people are happy with the procedure because they look better, feel healthier, and are in less pain.

The Best Tan is a Sunless Tan!

Never used a sunless tanner? Don't sweat it?it's a no brainer. These products are available in the local pharmacy, department store and/or from your local beauty consultant. They come in many forms; spray-on oil, foam, mousse, lotion, gel and creams. Always test a small area first, on your inner arm for instance. If you are happy with the results, then continue applying to the rest of your body. (You're probably thinking about the time you turned your entire body orange.) Fortunately, today's formulas are an improvement from the products of the past. Most contain a derivative of sugarcane or sugar beets that oxidizes with the top layer of the skin. This gives the skin a realistic looking tan without altering the structure or function of the skin. Since our body naturally sheds the top layer of dead skin cells regularly, you will see your tan fading fast. You will need to re-apply every two to three days, especially if you shower every day. Just refresh as necessary. A word to the wise, don't use your sunless tanner immediately after shaving. Shaving opens up the pores and the product will find its way into those open pores, giving you a polka-dotted appearance. Also, sunless tanners do not provide protection against the sun. Don't get lulled into thinking that the darker you are, the more protected you are! Sunless tanners provide ZERO sun protection. They are strictly cosmetic.

How to apply: The easiest way for a beginner, would be to use a cream or gel. Mousses, oils or lotions are sometimes difficult to control. Foam mousse dries fast, consequently, it can leave you with stripes, if you don't even it out quickly enough.

Step One: Exfoliate to remove dead surface skin cells. Since the product lays only on the top layer of your skin, you'll want to gently exfoliate around the coarsest areas like your knees and elbows. Then moisturize those same areas.

Step Two: Spread out a large towel or drop cloth to protect your floor and/or furniture.

Step Three: Pin up your hair. Use surgical gloves to protect your palms. (You don't want tanned palms?that's a dead giveaway.)

Step Four: Start at your feet. Apply using long, even strokes, first up and down, then across for an even distribution. You may need help with those hard to reach areas.

NOTE: Before applying sunless tanner to your face, make sure it is formulated for use on the face. You want to avoid clogging your pores.

Step Five: Finish by applying to the backs of your hands. Since your hands generally get washed and dried more frequently than the rest of your body, touch up as necessary.

Sunless tanners require a bit of practice for a perfectly sun-kissed look. But, your glowing new tan will certainly make your co-workers green with envy.

Permanent Cosmetics

What is Permanent Makeup?

Permanent makeup is a state-of-the-art form of cosmetic tattooing. The specialized techniques used for permanent cosmetics are often referred to as micropigmentation, micropigment implantation or dermagraphics. The cosmetic implantation technique deposits tiny individual implants of pigment into the dermal layer of skin to enhance facial features. The 3 most common procedures are eyebrows, eyeliner and full lip color. How Is It Done?

Permanent cosmetic procedures are performed using various machines, including the traditional (or specialized) tattoo or coil machines; the pen or rotary machine and the non-machine or hand tool method.

What Can Be Done?

- Eyebrows - Eyeliner - LipLiner - Full Lips - Cleft Lip - Beauty Marks -Skin Grafts -Scar Camouflage -Areola repigmentation

Who Benefits?

Women who:

? Have sparse brows and are tired of brow pencils
? Are tired of their makeup smearing
? Are athletic, yet still want to look their best
? Are allergic to conventional cosmetics
? Wear contact lenses
? Want to streamline their daily makeup r?gime
? Have colorless lips or uneven lip borders
? Have had breast reconstruction surgery (can tattoo an areola)
? Have scars and want them blended with their surrounding normal skin

&quot;Does it hurt?&quot;

Topical cream anesthetics are used to numb the area. Most people equate the sensation as similar to tweezing or waxing. Nancy provides instructions which further promote comfort. Not following instructions can promote bleeding and increase sensitivity. Permanent makeup intrigues me, ?..I don't know much about it??..

You probably know of someone who has permanent makeup and they love it. Or you may have seen or heard stories of bad work. It seems that the media is more likely to expound on the horror stories rather than the beautiful work that can be permanent makeup.

What Could Help Me Know If Permanent Makeup Is For Me?

First you must determine if there is something about your face, or body that you're unhappy with. Say your brows are sparse, you use pencil every day and you're tired of it. You may want to look into what permanent makeup can do for you. If you've had breast reconstruction and the areola/nipple was not replaced, then a permanent makeup artist can tattoo one on, making a woman feel whole again. Napoleon Hill said &quot; We Refuse to Believe What We Don't Understand&quot;. Without further knowledge the average person cannot make an educated decision about whether or not something will work for them. This means learn as much as possible about permanent makeup prior to making a a firm decision about it.

What Things Should I Look For In A Technician?

Once you have decided that you want permanent makeup, find out more about the technician. See if they have a website; visit that website. See if the information provided makes sense to you. Did you learn anything from it? Contact the technician, but instead of first asking &quot;how much it costs?&quot;, do this:

1) Learn as much about permanent makeup yourself before you talk to a prospective technician. Remember, this is your body/face ? you need to do your research and not rely only on the information they provide you.

2) How many procedures have they done?

3) What educational training have they had?

4) Do they have a portfolio of &quot;before&quot; and &quot;after&quot; photos you can review? Do you like what you see?

5) Does the technician seem interested in you?

6) Are they willing to provide answers to your questions?

7) Meet with her for a consultation.

8) Do you get a good feeling about this technician?

9) Ask how she keeps the procedure safe.

10) Then ask for costs. However, be advised this is not the industry to be looking for bargain basement prices?...you will get what you pay for?...trust me. I've repaired work that was inexpensive to the client who was only price shopping.

Knowing Your Skin Type Is The First Step in Choosing Proper Skin Care

In order to care for your skin properly you must first determine the type of skin you have.

There are 5 types of skin: Normal, Dry, Oily, Combination and Problem Skin.

Normal:

The skin is soft, supple and smooth. It is fine-textured and free of blemishes (with the exception of periodic blemishes). It has a nice glow and never feels oily or dry. Less than twenty percent of women have this skin type. If this is your skin type you are fortunate; however, this does not mean that you shouldn't take care of it.

Dry:

This type of skin to has a fine texture and is transparent looking. It feels tight and drawn without moisturizer and tends to have fine lines around the eyes and mouth. It feels especially dry after washing and may have whiteheads around the eyes and dry patches. This type of skin needs proper care because it shows signs of aging early.

Oily:

The oily complexion is greasy, sallow and course. It has large pores and tends to have pimples, blackheads and whiteheads. Within hours of washing the oiliness will reappear and makeup is usually absorbed quickly.

Combination:

This type of skin is oily in the T zone and the rest of the face is dry. The T zone is the forehead, nose and chin. The extent to which both areas are dry and oily may vary; however, both areas require a separate cleaning routine to restore them to balance.

Problem Skin:

Problem skin is usually oily and has a course texture and is subject to acne. It has large pores, blackheads, red blotches and may become more irritated under stress. If the problem is serious it will require the assistance of a dermatologist.

There are also 2 skin conditions that may occur either together or separately and may occur with any skin type. These are sensitive and allergic conditions. If when applying skin care products you begin to sneeze, wheeze, itch or breakout you are probably allergic. Skin that appears thin, pale and flushes easily and may be sensitive and be subject to allergies. If this is the case, treat your skin gently and use hypoallergenic products.

Sunless Tanning Booth

As we begin to fully understand the serious consequences of sun tanning, we are looking for alternatives and that's why a visit it a sunless tanning booth has become so popular. There are no tanning bed risks and no tanning bed burns to worry about. Just a beautiful golden tan that lasts about a week.

Remember the first self tanners that hit the shelves many years ago ? wella you became instant carrot orange. Well we've come along way babe! The hottest thing to hit the beauty seen is the sunless tanning booth which gently sprays your entire body a golden brown. You'll look naturally sun kissed and no one, and I mean no one will know its not a gift from mother nature.&quot;

Although you can get your spray tan out of a can it can be a bit tricky and you might land up looking a little streaky so why not book an appointment at your favorite salon and get it done right. Just think the perfect sunless tan! No more harmful UV rays

If you don't which shop has a spray booth or who is good then ask around, word of mouth is always a good way to find out what salon does the best spray tanning. Once you've chosen a salon book your appointment.

On the day of your appointment shower and exfoliate to make sure you've removed all loose and flaky skin. All the spray tanning in the world won't do you any good if its just going to flake off tomorrow with dead skin. A loofah works great for removing dead skin.

If there are parts of your body that you don't' want spray tanned than choose old clothing to cover them because they are going to be covered in a dye that doesn't come off easily. You'll also need to make sure they fit tight so that spray can't waft up.

Be sure you follow the instructions the salon gives you. Normally they give you a handout to read that tells you what to do.

After your sprayed you need to stand still for 60 seconds to let the tan dry evenly. This doesn't mean its completely dry it just this is when it's easiest to rub off or smear. You should actually be cautious for a couple of hours. After the 60 seconds gently blot your skin with a towel to catch drips and remove any blotches.

Feet don't normally get as much sun as the rest of you so they are often paler. In a spray booth they may actually darker faster because of the angle so it's best to wear the paper booties the salon gives you to keep your tan looking natural. You can always apply a coat at home with a can tanner if they are too light.

If you've got a special event coming up, perhaps a wedding, prom, or a re-union, spray tanning might be something you'll want to try. When done correctly it results in a very natural looking tan adding summer color to your pale winter skin. Using a sunless tanning booth is what could be called smart tanning. So what are you waiting for? Why not give it a try?

Contacts, What a Dream

It all started when I was in second or third grade. Before going to bed every night, my parents and I would read together, usually a chapter or two from a book I couldn't yet manage on my own (the Chronicles of Narnia stand out most in my memory). Maybe I knew that I was bound to be near sighted since both of my parents were, or maybe I'd seen somebody I admired on TV who was wearing glasses, but whatever the inspiration, I had the sudden desire to wear glasses. One night I starting squinting and pulling the book closer to my face, trying to show my parents that my eyesight was failing and that I needed glasses. I must not have been very convincing because nothing came of it, and after two weeks of trying, I abandoned the act.

My First Pair of Glasses
Several years later, my eyesight really did start to decline, but now I was significantly less keen on wearing glasses than I had previously been. Instead of making a show of needing to get my eyes checked, I did all that I could to hide the fact. I succeeded in hiding it for so long, in fact, that when I finally put on my new glasses for the first time, I was stunned. I had never seen (or noticed) such detail or definition. There were individual leaves on the tree just outside the door and the sign on the other side of the street actually had words written on it. I didn't know that a person's vision could be this good.

It didn't take too long, however, before I realized how much more nerdy my glasses made me look than I already was. The huge, bright-blue wire rims, though thin, were much too big for my small face. Worse still, they didn't like to stay on my nose and were constantly slipping down. By consequence, I developed the subconscious habit of crinkling my nose in an attempt to handlessly push the glasses back up to where they belonged, a habit which inspired a new nickname of &quot;Rabbit.&quot; For the next three years, contact lenses topped my Christmas list.

The Great Change
I don't know whether it was my parents' concern that I would neglect my contact lens care or their unwillingness to shell out the big bucks that kept them from allowing me to get contact lenses. It wasn't until I started playing lacrosse my freshman year of high school that I was finally able to convince them that getting contacts was not only a good idea but a necessity. I was lacking enough in athletic ability as it was, that practicing without my glasses was just a bad idea altogether. And when I got hit in the face with one too many balls--it was only one, but still one too many--the decision was final.

Contacts. Finally. What a dream. Had I been a little more daring, I might have gone for something crazy like special effect lenses, wild eyes, or even just colored lenses. But as it was, I was too elated to be shedding the horrid glasses to care about whether my eyes were green, brown, electric blue, or feline.

The Next Step
Since I gave up playing lacrosse long ago and my prejudice against glasses has worn off, some may say that it's time I take the next logical step in my eye care progression and get laser eye surgery. I just shake my head and reply that I'm still quite content with my contacts and won't be taking that step anytime in the near future. Maybe it's because I'm poor; maybe it's because I'm skeptical. Or maybe it's because I haven't forgotten what a dream it was to finally get contact lenses.

Hillary loves doing puzzles on the Internet, reading Harry Potter, and running half marathons. For more information on contact lenses and contact care, visit <a target="_new" href="http://www.discountcontacts.info/">http://www.discountcontacts.info</a>.

Rhinoplasty (Nose Job) Information: Worth the Cost

The nose is the central part of the human face, and is thus one of the first features everyone will see. Many people with high, wide bridges, drooping tips and large nostrils are highly self conscious about the way their nose looks and how others perceive them because of it. A distinctive nose can lend interest and even beauty to a face, many are so upset about the appearance of their nose that they are constantly worried about what people think of it. If you are one of these people, the benefits of the cosmetic procedure rhinoplasty, commonly known as a nose job, are worth the cost of surgery.

It is good to thoroughly discuss what you want with your cosmetic surgeon. He or she will know what results are possible and what alterations will look the best on the individual based upon the way a patient's nasal bones and cartilage are formed, the shape of the face, thickness of skin and age.

The cosmetic surgeon can anesthetize patients in two ways. First, the patient can have general anesthesia, under which the patient will sleep through the entire procedure. Second, the patient can take a sedative to relax in addition to local anesthesia which will numb the nose and surrounding areas that will be affected by surgery.

During rhinoplasty surgery, incisions are made either inside the nostrils or across the septum that divides the nostrils. Scars from incisions inside the nostrils will, of course, be invisible, but those incisions made on the nostrils (in cases where wide nostrils are fixed by cutting out a section of the nostril at the base) may be visible but should be well hidden by the natural crease where the nose meets the face. After the incision is made, the skin of the nose is then lifted back so the nose shape can be altered. Depending upon the desired look of the nose, different procedures will be done. The bridge of the nose can be straightened by shaving off the bone with a chisel. Then the bridge can be narrowed by bringing the nasal bones closer together. For noses that droop down at the tip, cartilage from the end of the nose can be trimmed to improve the angle between the nose and upper lip.

Recovery from rhinoplasty can be unpleasant, as patients will have to wear a splint an can expect minor swelling and bruising of the face. Also, they will have to keep their head elevated when they sleep. Also, people who wear glasses (and don't have contact lenses) will have to tape their glasses to their face so that the glasses don't rest on the nose for several weeks. However, after these initial inconveniences subside, people are glad that they decided to enhance their appearance through rhinoplasty and have improved self image and self confidence.

Surgery for the Stars

While plastic surgery might remain for many of us something of a pipe dream, the thing we'd do if we won the lottery, for those in the entertainment industry, it has slowly but surely become akin to an entry pass into Hollywood. While there are still a large percentage of women in the general populace who are quite content to sit around with their girlfriends and talk about what they would have done, there is a certain faction of womankind - though as the pressure to conform to a particular 'look' increases, the male membership of the group increases also - for whom plastic surgery is simply inevitable.

It is very difficult to find a woman in tinsel town whose only surgeon has been the natural passing of time - in fact, there is a growing subsection of the entertainment and gossip industry that thrives off the maudlin reportage of what stars are having done, and how wrong it is going. While there is undoubted interest, and even admiration, for the woman who has had plastic surgery go right, we seem to take greater delight in perusing photograph after photograph of some former beauty who has suffered the misfortune of having something not quite go to plan in the surgery room.

Because regardless of the star who succumbs to the knife, and regardless of the surgeon who wields it, the fates sometimes frown on surgery, and the rich and famous take the same risks with plastic surgery that the rest of us do. But this inherent danger seems to be of little consequence, as the list of surgery supporters grows ever larger. And while we continue to gaze with wonder at the beautiful celebrities that fill our magazines, it becomes increasingly difficult to find one that has not yet been surgically enhanced. Because it seems that to succeed in a world where talent is only second best, the surgical manipulation of physical appearance really is inevitable.

Rejuvenate Your Skin with a Simple Seaweed Facial Mask

A few years ago I discovered how to make a simple facial mask that left my face feeling incredibly soft, smooth and looking absolutely radiant. This mask contains kelp, honey, and aloe vera.

Seaweeds have been traditionally used to detoxify the body both internally and externally. They are rich in nutrients which help to both tone and nourish the skin. Seaweed contain mineral salts that can help the skin to hold it's moisture better, which helps to smooth fine lines.

Adding honey to your mask adds additional moisture to the skin. Honey is a natural humectant that is rich in vitamins, minerals, enzymes and sugar. The sugar and enzymes in honey is a gentle exfoliate for the skin. When possible use raw honey to ensure that you get the maximum quality and benefit of this wonderful golden treat.

Aloe Vera has been known for its amazing healing properties for centuries. It has been used to help heal burns, eczema, sores, acne, insect bites, and more. It's an antiseptic, highly lubricant, and penetrates deep into the skin.

To benefit from these ingredients, create this simple mask:

1 TBSP Kelp powder
? TBSP honey (raw honey is best)
? TBSP Aloe vera gel (99.9% pure)

Mix all ingredients in a bowl and apply to a clean face. Leave the mask on for 15 minutes and rinse with lukewarm water.

To enjoy glowing, healthy looking skin, use this mask 2 times a week.

I promise you will enjoy this mask and make it a regular part of your beauty program.

Contact Lenses Causing Dry Eyes?

Don't you just hate it when your eyes are dry and itchy? It is definitely one of the worst feelings for such a sensitive area. Your instincts tell you that you should rub your eyes when they are dry. However, this only leads to a drier more irritated eye. If you are tired of dealing with dry eyes, here are a few tips that will help clear up the problem for you.

First, understand what is causing your eye to become dry and then eliminate the triggering factor. One of the most common causes of dry eyes, believe it or not, is simply not blinking enough. Often when we sit in front of the TV or the computer, we are not blinking our eyes as often as we should. When we blink, we are actually coating our eyes with tears. These tears help maintain the health of the eye.

Contact lenses may also be causing your eyes to become dry. Instead of allowing tears to moisturize the eye, often soft contacts soak up the tears. Again, this results in dry irritated eyes.

Another cause of eye irritation and dryness is prescription medicine. There are certain prescriptions whose side effects include &quot;dryness&quot; which encompasses the tear ducts. If this is causing your eyes to be dry, talk with your medical doctor and see what options are available to counteract this side effect.

Outside of prescription medicine side effects, treatment for most cases of dry eyes consists of purchasing an over-the-counter eye lubricant (artificial tears). These lubricants can be used as many times as needed until the problem dissipates. However, if the dryness stays for an extended period of time, you may need to be tested by your optometrist to ensure that there is not a more serious underlying problem.

It is important to note that for contact wearers, it is better to try a rewetting drop specially formulated for contact lenses before trying any artificial tear solution. Again, talk to your optometrist if you are unsure about which solution will work best for your specific brand of contact lenses.

By understanding what is triggering the dryness in your eyes, you can stop it with the use of over-the-counter eye drops or the appropriate contact lens rewetting solution in most cases. As always, talk with your optician if the problem persists.

The Dangers of Plastic Surgery

There is very little in this life that comes without risk, and the dangers of plastic surgery are a prime example of this. Most of us have been reminded by elderly relatives that our lives could be cut short any day simply by crossing the street; this adage is usually quoted to remind us to live each day to the full, and to do the things that will bring fulfilment to our lives, despite the many risks inherent. While it is true that the sensible among us put the inevitable risks of daily life to the back of our minds in order, simply, to stay sane, a balanced life is perhaps knowing risks to pay attention to, and which to ignore.

There is little doubt that the dangers of plastic surgery are multiple, but its popularity nevertheless continues unabated. These dangers, clearly, are for many people acceptable one, and plastic surgery seems to be something that offers potential benefits significant enough to plough on regardless.

But there is also an element in the human condition that clings to the tenet that ignorance is bliss, that it won't happen to me anyway, and perhaps there is something to be said for that belief. Constantly thinking of the possible dangers of life will only immobilise us with fear. We would never take a chance on anything; never seek to better ourselves, or our world. And while plastic surgery has its detractors as well as its advocates, surely even those opposed to the surgical alteration of a healthy body can applaud the willingness to take a leap of faith towards something believed in?

They say that knowledge is power, and the making of an informed decision is only possible with all the facts to hand. Perhaps you will choose to continue on your desired route despite understanding the risks and dangers of plastic surgery, but you will be making a decision based on something real, rather than the foolhardy belief that things cannot go wrong.

How to Co-Wash Natural Black Hair

If you wear your hair natural, you are probably familiar with co-washing, or washing the hair with conditioner only. Conditioner washing avoids harsh results from frequent washing with shampoos and helps to keep natural black hair soft and manageable. Co-washing can be done as often as you'd like, even several times a day (this is a plus for natural hair wearers in the hot days of summer).

Oftentimes the question of "How do I co-wash my hair?" comes up. The answer would seem simple, but there are some steps you can take to get the most benefit from this technique and do it with ease.

* First, find a conditioner that works for your hair type. Search online for keywords "hair types" and narrow your hair type down to one or two close categories. You may be a combo 3c and 4a. This will help you better understand which type of conditioner to purchase among the many available.

* Get to know your ingredients. The long, hard-to-pronounce ingredients on the label can be overwhelming. But with familiarity, you can learn to spot which ingredients you want to keep and which you want to avoid. Ingredients like propylene glycol, cetyl alcohol and panthenol are common. Search online for ingredients lists. One such list can be found at http://sci-toys.com/ingredients/ingredients.html.

* Recommended: Purchase an extended shower head/hose. Handheld shower heads with variable sprays offer the best control for rinsing the hair and are often well worth the investment.

* Rinse the hair with warm water. Avoid water that is too hot (if it initially stings your back, it's too hot). Cleansing results from the action of water plus cleanser (shampoo and/or conditioner) and agitation (hand movements through the hair). Warm water will clean hair well while hot water can be damaging. While rinsing with water, gently comb your hair with your fingers.

* Apply your conditioner. This can be done in several ways.

(1) Pour a line of conditioner into your hand (as opposed to pouring a dollop) and apply each line onto parted hair sections. Work the conditioner from the roots to the tips. Continue until all the hair is covered.

(2) Squeeze your normal amount of conditioner into a large bowl, preferably plastic. With the shower head, add water to the bowl and mix the water and conditioner well with your hands. Bend your head over the bowl. With a cup or other small container, scoop up some of the mix and pour it onto your hair. You can then lean further over into the bowl and wash your hair with your hands directly over the bowl if you'd like. This allows for even coverage, but note that the conditioner will be more dilute.

(3) Squeeze your normal amount of conditioner into a large clean spray bottle and mix with water. Shake well and spray liberally onto the hair. Again, this mixture will be more dilute than a direct application. This method is great for those who only have minutes to spare in the mornings. Make a large batch of diluted conditioner, spray your hair and rinse out after bathing.

* Comb your hair with a wide-tooth comb with rounded-edge teeth. This step is optional, as there remains a debate as to whether combing while wet does more damage to hair than combing while dry. It has been said that combing while wet can stretch the hair past it's longest point, thereby causing breakage. However, many who wear their hair natural report that combing while the hair is fully conditioned is the best time for them, as the hair is soft and pliable, leading to less breakage. In either case, comb hair gently by grabbing one small section at a time. Comb from the TIPS first, ensuring there are no snags then work your way to the roots. It's ok if you cannot comb from root to tip in one stroke. The main idea is to ease tangles and distribute the conditioner evenly.

* Allow the conditioner to set on your hair for at least a few minutes if possible. Both steam from the shower and the conditioner itself will work on your hair during this time. Give yourself a nice salt or sugar scrub while your hair is being conditioned.

* Rinse your hair well, again with warm water. Ease your fingers through each section while the water flows through to remove any remaining conditioner.

* Optional: Apply your hair products at this step -- while your hair is dripping wet. Many naturals swear by this technique and believe the best absorption is gained at this time. At the least, your product(s) can be more evenly distributed throughout your hair while it is sopping wet.

* It's time to dry. Just as with the application, there are several ways to dry your hair.

(1) Dry with a towel. Avoid rubbing your scalp and hair with a towel at all costs! Instead, simply dab and pat your hair dry, or grab sections and squeeze excess water into the towel.

(2) Shake and go. Lay your towel across the back of your shoulders (lengthwise shoulder to shoulder). Grab the bottom corners of the towel and raise it up to your head, almost over your head. Think of Batman's cape raised up as he jumps off a tall building! With the towel raised, shake your head from side to side (ear to shoulder) and left to right (like saying no), shaking excess water into the towel. This is what I call the "no touch" method. Sometimes drying the hair directly with a towel can remove products you've just applied, even helping to separate your freshly-formed coils and spirals. You want your coils to group together to avoid the frizzies. This method is perfect for the warmer months when you possibly can afford to go longer periods with damp hair.

(3) Blow dry, but with care. When blow drying, the use of a diffuser is best. A diffuser will spread the heat from your dryer more evenly and minimize potential heat damage. You can find diffusers at most beauty supply stores at a minimal cost. If you do not have a diffuser, use the low heat or cool setting and blow dry from at least six inches from the furthest part of your hair. Remember, you are not trying to get the hair bone dry -- just dry enough to style and go out.

In summary, with the above methods you'll find shampooing your hair by co-washing is a great alternative to traditional shampooing which can strip your hair of much needed oils and moisture. With just a touch of practice, getting in and out of the shower with a clean head of hair will take less time than applying your makeup, and your hair will benefit greatly from it.

Microdermabrasion Treatment Offers Dramatic Results

Microdermabrasion is a procedure that improves skin condition. It is effective at reducing fine lines, fine wrinkles, small scars such as acne scars (although it is not effective on deep wrinkles or deep scars), and age spots. Microdermabrasion works by emitting tiny (micro) crystals that polish (abrasion) the skin (derma). This stimulates the production of collagen and other skin cells that make the skin look healthier. The treatment sessions last for about an hour but several must be done every few weeks. Microdermabrasion does not have a permanent effect, but it has other benefits that recommend it above other skin rejuvenation techniques.

First, it has virtually no side effects. Immediately after the procedure is done, the patient is able to go about his or her life without restricting time spent in the sunlight. Second, it is a non-surgical procedure so it can be done quickly (which has given rise to calling microdermabrasion a &quot;lunch peel&quot;) and without anesthetic. Furthermore it works on all types and colors of skin. Unlike other skin treatments, there will not be negative effects on skin pigmentation because of microdermabrasion. People with skin types that are not suitable of these other procedures can safely undergo microdermabrasion without worrying about the negative side effects.

Plastic Surgey: The New Beauty Norm?

This is a good topic to discuss especially now since the popularity of all the make-over shows. I have always been curious as to why people, mostly women, have this idea that they are expected to look a certain way in order to "fit in" with society.

We all would like to believe that quaint saying, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder", but how true and meaningful is that phrase when the beholder has been brainwashed, so to speak, into subscribing to the belief that beauty is the artificial look we see on glamour mags, in TV commercials, and even in some children's books? For some time now, that image has consisted mainly of white women and the "white standard of beauty".

I decided to take this question of plastic surgery and the search for beauty and see how it can affect some women in the African-American community. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, African-Americans make up only 6% of plastic surgery patients. Why is this? Do African-American women have a more positive self/body image or is it that many cannot afford it? And for the 6% who do have surgery, to which standard of beauty were they trying to aspire?

I chose to start my search for the white standard of beauty in 1960. I chose that year because at the time, a TV show was airing that sought to teach moral and societal lessons through fantastical tales. Two episodes of this show were very telling and prophetic, and they both dealt with how society viewed beauty and the expectations placed on women to be "beautiful". That show was, The Twilight Zone.

Beauty in 1960... Rod Serling offered us a tale of beauties and beasts in episode #42 entitled: Eye of the Beholder. Here's a brief synopsis of the show I found at The Twilight Zone Guide: Janet Tyler anxiously awaits the outcome of her latest surgery. Janet, who's abnormal face has made her an outcast, has had her eleventh hospital visit - the maximum allowed by the State. If it didn't succeed, she will be sent to live in a village where others of her kind are segregated. As her bandages are removed, she is revealed to be very beautiful. The doctor draws back in horror. As the lights come on we see the others, their faces are misshapen and deformed. As Janet runs from her room crying, she runs into another of her kind, a handsome man named Walter Smith. He is in charge of an outcast village, and he assures her that she will eventually feel she belongs. He tells her to remember the old saying: "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." Although the show was filmed in black and white, we can clearly see that Ms. Tyler is Caucasian. The doctors appear to have darker skin, nevertheless, the idea here was that the viewers empathized with Ms. Tyler because she was the classic blonde, slender beauty commonly seen in 1960's fashion magazines. As the show closes, the narrator speaks: "Now the questions that come to mind. Where is this place and when is it, what kind of world where ugliness is the norm and beauty the deviation from that norm? The answer is, it doesn't make any difference. Because the old saying happens to be true. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, in this year or a hundred years hence, on this planet or wherever there is human life, perhaps out among the stars. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Lesson to be learned...in the Twilight Zone."

1964: The Standard Continues Episode #137, in Season Five, is called, "Number Twelve Looks Just Like You", and was adapted by a short story called "The Beautiful People". In this episode, we meet Marilyn, a young woman who is about to go through a rite of passage in her community. This rite is called "The Transformation" and it requires citizens to choose among several models of bodies into which they will be transformed. The message here is that this society only sees one standard of beauty and that one will not be happy unless they look and act just like everyone else. Opening Narration: "Given the chance, what young girl wouldn't happily exchange a plain face for a lovely one? What girl could refuse the opportunity to be beautiful? For want of a better estimate, let's call it the year 2000. At any rate, imagine a time in the future when science has developed a means of giving everyone the face and body he dreams of. It may not happen tomorrow--but it happens now, in the Twilight Zone."

Once again, the beautiful people are all white and we don't see any women or men of color. What was this episode trying to tell black women about beauty? The closing narration: Portrait of a young lady in love--with herself. Improbable? Perhaps. But in an age of plastic surgery, body building, and an infinity of cosmetics, let us hesitate to say impossible. These and other strange blessings may be waiting in the future--which after all, is the Twilight Zone."

Beauty 40 Years Later

Some aspects of beauty standards have changed, but not much. We do see more black models and beautiful black women, but when you look at the majority of the more famous ones, (Tyra, Halle, Janet, Vanessa Williams, Beyonce, a few of whom have had plastic surgery, on their noses and other body parts), you can see straight away that they have many Caucasian attributes: small, pinched noses, lighter complexion, lighter eyes, straight, lightly colored hair. It is rare that you will see a model with very dark skin, a tight afro, wide, round, larger nose, and full, large lips. Flip through any issue of Vogue or Glamour and look for that image I just described. Then look for the first image I described.

So, are black women trying to aspire to the white standard of beauty when they seek plastic surgery?

According to Cynthia Winston, assistant professor of psychology at Howard University in Washington, D.C., We really don't know much about how blacks are influenced. Most of the research focuses on perceptions related to skin color. Foe most African-Americans, perception can be shaped by their environment. For example, an African-American woman growing up in an all-white neighborhood in Nebraska may be more likely than an African-American woman raised in inner-city Detroit to compare herself with white images of beauty.

(Source: African-American Women & Plastic Surgery: Self-Improvement or Self-Hatred? By Angela D. Johnson, Sept. 2, 2003)

Now What?

I suppose, it all comes down to how one feels inside about themselves. But there is this viscous cycle of doubt that women constantly face so it's often hard to reconcile your inner voices with the outside images thrown at you everyday. Many women buy into the trends and fashions that dictate beauty. TV shows and print ads abound with images of sexy women. Fitness clubs persuade women to join not so they will lower their risk of heart disease, but so they will aspire to be beautiful on the outside. No one tries to sell things that will help them on the inside.

In the end, you can look at all of this and say that there will always be standards of beauty and those who aspire to live up those standards, and those wanting to make a profit off those standards (cosmetic companies, ad agencies, modeling agencies, fashion designers, plastic surgeons, psychotherapists). The media portrays what people want to see and apparently, it's sex and "beauty".

Ms. Martin currently resides in sunny Southern California with her son. When she's not writing, she works part-time as a preschool teacher where she hopes to help all children develop positive self and body images.

Cheap Colored Contacts Non Perscription are Fun and Easy to Buy Online

The Internet has provided an ideal forum for discovering cheap colored contacts non perscription. This is an especially promising opportunity for those who know how to exercise caution online, and can distinguish a quality site and a good deal, from those that only appear to be offering something special. In fact, if you comparison shop, and make certain that you've discovered a safe site, you can be sure to find cheap colored contacts non perscription that will give you affordability, as well as a great look!

There are certain things that you should make certain before you head out to order cheap colored contacts non perscription, though, even if you've already found the ideal website. Here are some tips to keep you on the right track for safety, comfort, great looks, and a fantastic bargain:

- Be certain that you know the sizing of your cornea: the diameter and the base curve. Even if the color contacts you intend to buy are non-prescription, you still need to know the measurements of your eye, so that you won't suffer discomfort or even cause damage. Your optometrist can do this for you quickly and easily.

- Visit your ophthalmologist to make certain that you don't have any trouble in either the coloured or the white part of your eye that you don't know about. This is important, because contact lenses can aggravate certain conditions.

- Make an appointment with your eye doctor every year after you've been wearing colored contactlenses, since wearing them will cause changes to the cells on the surface of your eyeball, and you risk damaging your cornea. Though this is relatively rare, it is not a risk you want to take. Even if it seems that you aren't experiencing any problems, you should still make certain to get checked out.

- When selecting the brand of non prescription contact lens, go with the one that suits you best, and if it's not in stock, wait for it to be reordered, or go elsewhere. Be very wary of sites that attempt to substitute your order, as different brands have different specifications, and depending on your eye, this may cause difficulties. For example, between brands, there are differences in the water content, and even in the shape of the product itself.

An Introduction to Rhinoplasty

Nasal surgery (Rhinoplasty Surgery), the most common form of plastic surgery practiced in America today, is a procedure that alters the framework of the nose, manipulating the bone and cartilage structure and the skin to improve the appearance of the nose. It can be used to change the overall appearance of the face from one where the focus of attention was placed on the nose to one where the attention is drawn away from the nose and towards the eyes, a more natural, pleasing occurrence. When the focus of attention is directed towards any other feature on the face other than the eyes, the face is said to be out of &quot;harmony&quot;. Rhinoplasty surgery, when performed correctly, improves the harmony of the facial features.

Common defects corrected through the use of rhinoplasty surgery include but are not limited to a nose that is too large, too small, crooked or may contain an unwanted hump, birth defect or other deformity. If the nose has been damaged by physical trauma, the surgery may be more intensive than a mere straightening or reduction and may involve an area wider than the nose to fully reconstruct the damage, but it is still rhinoplasty surgery.

Rhinoplasty surgery is a delicate, complex undertaking and should not be entered into without thorough investigation and due diligence. You and your doctor should have many conversations about exactly what you want done and exactly how the doctor is going to accomplish fulfilling your request. Remember this: rhinoplasty surgery is both a science and an art, as is any plastic surgery. Any other surgeon has to be only competent - a plastic surgeon has to be competent and have artistic talent. It is important that the finished product create a harmonious balance with the rest of your face, be natural looking and last forever as well as being medically sound.

Rhinoplasty is different from the surgical procedure used to repair a deviated septum to improve a patient's breathing. Although the two are quite often done simultaneously and more often than not, a simple rhinoplasty is billed to insurance companies as a deviated septum repair, one has nothing to do with the other. Repairing one's nose to improve aesthetic appearance and surgery performed on a deviated septum to improve breathing and air flow into the lungs are completely different procedures. In the case of many rhinoplastic surgeries, the complete operation can be performed without any external incisions. And furthermore, many rhinoplasties are performed in the doctor's office and the patient goes home after a short recovery period of several hours following the surgery, returning to work in a matter of a few days. A splint is placed around the outside of the nose for protection and is usually removed after about a week. With advanced surgical techniques, unless the reconstruction has been extensive, the need for &quot;nose packing&quot; to keep things in place after the surgery has been drastically reduced. There is typically some swelling after the procedure, however, after about one week your new nose will be completely presentable and most people find the return to their jobs goes smoothly and easily.

5 Steps to Clear Skin

Step One: Reduce excess oil secretion

Accutane is a derivative of vitamin A and reduces the secretion of oil by the oil glands.

Foods that supply the body with Vitamin A and beta-carotene (which is converted to vitamin A by the body) include: Liver, oily fish, whole eggs, carrots, sweet potatoes, and broccoli.

Step Two: Encourage extreme shedding of the skin

Using a peel is the easiest method to promote shedding of the skin. Exfoliation releases the build-up of dead skin cells, oils and bacteria trapped in the pores, which could lead to the formation of blemishes.

Extreme peels
Peels come in varying degrees, from mild to harsh. The trichloroacetic acid (TCA) peel is an extreme peel that can cost from $100 to $1000 depending on the degree of the treatment. It is only performed in a doctor's office. The TCA is not a save all however. The peel can make the skin sensitive to the sun cause hyper-pigmentation.

Home use peels
Several over-the-counter peels contain papaya enzymes or glycolic acid. These peels lightly exfoliate the skin and are safe for weekly use.

Step Three: Reduce the spread of bacterial infection

Using an astringent such as witch hazel or apple cider vinegar to disinfect the skin significantly reduces the presence of bacteria on the face. This reduction limits skin inflammation and the likelihood of a pimple developing.

Step Four: Enhance Fat Metabolism

Free fatty acids can irritate the skin and provoke acne eruptions. Reducing intake of foods containing hydrolyzed fats will improve fat metabolism. However, do consume essential fatty acids such as Omega-3 and Omega-6, which are found in foods such as salmon and olive oil. These essential fats aid the gastrointestinal tract eliminate pro-inflammatory substances, which reduces the possibility of experiencing acne lesions.

Step Five: Reduce inflammation

A strong immune system serves as a buffer against inflammation. Stress reducing activities such as exercising, eating a well-balanced diet and sleeping well boosts the immune system. A diet supplemented with B-Complex, zinc and vitamins C and E likewise enhances the effectiveness of the immune system.

These steps work via creating a bodily environment that is not conducive to acne. By adhering to the nutritional and aesthetic steps above, anyone can attain clear skin while simultaneously augmenting their health.
