Differences Between Perfume And Perfume Oils

The history of perfume oils dates back to ancient Egypt when these fine scented oils were presented to royalty as gifts. In modern times, however, when the word "perfume" is said, most people think of department store fragrances, which consist mainly of the concentrated oil and alcohol solution. Nevertheless, as more and more people are finding out about them, perfume oils are experiencing great popularity. Here are some interesting facts about perfume oils:

1) Strength of smell - Perfume oils are highly concentrated and up to ten times more concentrated than department store perfumes. This quality allows oils to last longer than their eau de perfume counterparts.

2) Alcohol - Perfumes have alcohol in them, which creates different smell effects. Most body oils use carrier oils like jojoba or grapeseed oil in place of alcohol. In some fragrances, the smell can change as the alcohol evaporates different scent notes through time. With oils, the scent is more constant.

3) Price - A noticeable difference between perfumes and perfume oils is price. Perfumes have a very high markup and great profit margins, which is perhaps why many celebrities have embarked on the trend of creating their own perfumes and colognes. Perfume oils can be sold very cheaply, or even more expensively than the perfumes, depending on how they are positioned in the market.

4) Body chemistry - Just because a perfume or cologne smells good on you, doesn't mean that the oil version will. Perfumes only have a small percentage of oil, so they are quite different than pure body oils. This interaction between the fragrance and your body may produce a different scent perception altogether.

5) Packaging - Clearly, department store perfumes are very nicely packaged and thus make great gifts for friends and family. Many perfume oils are sold in less attractive containers, which is part of the reason for their lower price.

6) Uses - Perfumes are only intended for use on the body, but perfume oils can be used to create a variety of scented products, like soap, candles, bath oils, air fresheners, and many other types of scented products. Be aware that there are different types of fragrance oils and that pure uncut oils are not safe for use on the skin.

In summary, whether you choose to use perfume oils or not will depend on the factors above. Try out a small sample first and who knows, you might just discover a delightful new product to add to your personal inventory.

Crazy Contact Lenses ? Freak Out Your Friends!

You've seen them before either in music videos, in theatre, or maybe even while out shopping. They always get a second and third look. People don't know what to make of them. Small children either love them or are terrified by them. But that is part of their appeal. They are meant to generate attention and interest. Why else buy crazy contact lenses if you can't freak a few people out with them?

Crazy contact lenses are contacts that have designs or unique colors imprinted in them to make the eye stand out or mimic other creatures. There are countless designs of crazy contacts including everything from sport teams' logos to eyes that appear engulfed in flames. One of the more popular designs is a cat eye with a black pupil.

Though crazy contacts are fun at parties and for special effects, they are still contact lenses and need to be cared for in the same manner as you would care for other styles of contacts. This means that they are cleansed regularly with the proper cleaning solution. They shouldn't ever be shared with others. They are not meant to be slept in. And because they should be fitted for the specific shape of your eye, crazy contacts should only be acquired via prescription from an eye care practitioner.

This doesn't mean that you have to wear glasses in order to wear crazy contacts. Like traditional colored contact lenses, crazy contacts can come in both novelty and visual correction prescription form. However, in the United States, the FDA requires that you possess a valid prescription in order to purchase contact lens of any style including crazy contacts.

Crazy contacts are extremely fun. If you are into theatrics, crazy contacts can add an intriguing effect and element of mystery to your project. If you are just looking for some fun, try walking around the mall with a pair of crazy contact lenses in and watch all of the heads turn. Keep in mind though that they are still regular contact lenses and require the same care as any other contact lens. As always, talk to your eye care practitioner today about ordering your new pair of crazy contacts.

What is Lasik Eye Surgery?

Individuals with imperfect vision now have an option available to them that will correct their vision while reducing the need for glasses or contacts. This procedure is called Lasik eye surgery and it corrects vision problems for patients.

The way Lasik eye surgery works is relatively simple, fast and with minimal pain. And fortunately, the price of lasik eye surgery is becoming more affordable.

LASIK stands for Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis and is a procedure that reshapes the cornea. The process that is used for this sounds a bit dangerous, but is being performed with huge success rates all over the world.

First, the eye is numbed a bit with a solution and the ophthalmologist takes a special knife and cuts a small flap in the cornea of the patient's eye. The flap is left connected to the eye so there are only three sides cut. Then, the ophthalmologist pulls the flap back exposing the second layer of the cornea known as the stroma.

Then, the ophthalmologist uses a specialized laser that sends pulses to the stroma that reshape the cornea. Then, the flap is replaced and the procedure is completed.

While this procedure does not seem to be very complicated and certainly does not take a lot of time, it is not a perfected science. The reason for this is each eye is shaped differently and the amount of slope on the cornea affects the level of vision problems. The ophthalmologist must gauge how much cornea needs to be removed/ reshaped in order to correct the patient's vision to 20/20. This is difficult because there is no way to know how the cornea will react to the laser and how close to perfect vision the patient will have.

As a result, lasik eye surgery works very well for patients who want to improve their vision. However, it is not guaranteed to return your vision to 20/20. It may, however, be successful or the eye might not react the way the ophthalmologist imagines and leave the patient with less than perfect sight and still necessitating the use of glasses or contacts. Fortunately, lasik surgery is successful and patients are pleased the majority of the time.

Knowing Your Skin Type Is The First Step in Choosing Proper Skin Care

In order to care for your skin properly you must first determine the type of skin you have.

There are 5 types of skin: Normal, Dry, Oily, Combination and Problem Skin.

Normal:

The skin is soft, supple and smooth. It is fine-textured and free of blemishes (with the exception of periodic blemishes). It has a nice glow and never feels oily or dry. Less than twenty percent of women have this skin type. If this is your skin type you are fortunate; however, this does not mean that you shouldn't take care of it.

Dry:

This type of skin to has a fine texture and is transparent looking. It feels tight and drawn without moisturizer and tends to have fine lines around the eyes and mouth. It feels especially dry after washing and may have whiteheads around the eyes and dry patches. This type of skin needs proper care because it shows signs of aging early.

Oily:

The oily complexion is greasy, sallow and course. It has large pores and tends to have pimples, blackheads and whiteheads. Within hours of washing the oiliness will reappear and makeup is usually absorbed quickly.

Combination:

This type of skin is oily in the T zone and the rest of the face is dry. The T zone is the forehead, nose and chin. The extent to which both areas are dry and oily may vary; however, both areas require a separate cleaning routine to restore them to balance.

Problem Skin:

Problem skin is usually oily and has a course texture and is subject to acne. It has large pores, blackheads, red blotches and may become more irritated under stress. If the problem is serious it will require the assistance of a dermatologist.

There are also 2 skin conditions that may occur either together or separately and may occur with any skin type. These are sensitive and allergic conditions. If when applying skin care products you begin to sneeze, wheeze, itch or breakout you are probably allergic. Skin that appears thin, pale and flushes easily and may be sensitive and be subject to allergies. If this is the case, treat your skin gently and use hypoallergenic products.

The Facts about Rhinoplasty Nasal Surgery

Rhinoplasty is a surgery to reshape the nose. This is one of the most common surgical procedures performed in the United States. Rhinoplasty can reduce or increase the size of the nose, change the shape of the tip or bridge of the nose, narrow the span of the nostrils, change the angle between the nose and upper lip, or correct a birth defect or injury as well as relieve breathing problems. Rhinoplasty can change appearance and increase self-confidence but you will not necessarily end up with a "perfect" nose.

The best candidates for rhinoplasty are people looking for an improvement in their nose and not perfection. You also must be physically healthy, psychologically stable, and have realistic expectations of the future results of the surgery.

Are there any risks to rhinoplasty? Any surgery creates a possibility of complications, including infections, nosebleed, or reactions to anesthesia. Reduce your risks by carefully following your surgeon's instructions before and after surgery. After the surgery, small burst blood vessels may appear on your nose as small red spots that are minor but may be permanent. There is not usually any scarring if the rhinoplasty incision is inside the nose. When an "open" technique is used there is a small scar on base of nose but it is usually invisible.

Some tricks for planning your rhinoplasty are having a high level of communication with your surgeon and his office. Discuss the rhinoplasty techniques that are to be performed, what kind of anesthesia will be used, and the risks associated with the surgery. You need to communicate to your Doctor about any previous surgery's you might have had, especially nose surgeries. You also need to tell your Doctor about any allergies you have or breathing difficulties as well as any medications, vitamins, or recreational drugs you have taken. If you smoke, you need to tell your Doctor as he/she might have some advice for you concerning smoking. If you have any questions, let your Doctor know so that your nerves will not get irritated.

To prepare for your surgery your Doctor will give you guidelines on eating and drinking the day before, smoking, what medications you can and cannot take, and washing your face. Carefully follow the Doctor's instructions to ensure your rhinoplasty goes smoothly and you heal quickly. Be sure you arrange for someone to drive you home after your rhinoplasty and help you out for a couple of days afterwards at home.

In part two of this article you will learn what to expect during your rhinoplasty and afterwards.

Getting Rid of Cellulite - The Best Anti Cellulite Creams, Treatments and Remedies

It is estimated that about 95% of all women have cellulite. That is a staggering number, and seems almost impossible to beat! We are lucky enough to live in an age where cosmetic and "nutraceutical" technology is becoming so advanced, getting rid of cellulite is becoming easier, more affordable, and faster.

We have several anti cellulite creams, treatments and even anti cellulite herbal supplements and cellulite remedies at our disposal to add to our anti cellulite arsenal. Getting rid of cellulite is an uphill battle, and as of yet there are no "permanent" fixes, but there are ways to effectively and dramatically reduce cellulite and smooth those puckered, spongy areas into submission.

Getting rid of cellulite is easier and so much more effective with more than one method of cellulite treatment. First, a high quality anti cellulite cream, lotion or gel is a good start, since the smoothing, tightening, and water retention relief ingredients almost immediately smooth the appearance of cellulite. Also, the massaging action that is used to apply the cellulite lotion actually helps to externally stimulate circulation and break up the collagen bands just below the surface that cause the puckered, spongy texture externally.

Another highly recommended method of getting rid of cellulite, IN COMBINATION with your anti cellulite cream, is an herbal or all natural cellulite fighting supplement designed to specifically target the internal causes of cellulite formation.

By helping your body dispose of excess water retention and built up toxins, anti cellulite supplements actually help shrink the fat cells that are responsible for the appearance of cellulite.

Getting rid of cellulite becomes a less daunting task when you combine an excellent anti cellulite cream and oral anti cellulite remedy, since you are attacking cellulite "from both ends".

If you approach the cellulite fight this way, I guarantee you will see a noticeable reduction in cellulite in about four to eight weeks. All you have to lose is the cellulite if you follow this approach to getting rid of cellulite!

Pierced Ear Problems and Solutions

The practice of ear piercing dates back to thousands of years ago. From jungle tribes to desert nomads to royalty, pierced ears were indicators of both beauty and social standing. Ear piercing is just as popular today, with both men and women having one or both earlobes pierced. Certain preventive and maintenance procedures need to be observed in order to avoid and treat pierced ear problems either on the lobe or on the cartilage.

A sizable percentage of individuals experience minor problems in the period following piercing. You've heard the saying 'cleanliness is next to godliness.' Here, it is suitable to say 'cleanliness is key to avoiding pierced ear problems.' It's important for the person performing the piercing to operate in clean surroundings, use sterile equipment and employ a sanitary piercing technique. Ideally, piercing should be done in a clinical setting, but many jewelry stores in malls offer the service and this is acceptable only if the conditions are sanitary and the staff knowledgeable so that the risk of pierced ear problems is minimized.

Another problem arising from ear piercing is an allergic reaction to the metal from which the earring is made, especially nickel. The studs to be used should be hypoallergenic and totally nickel-free; ideally, stainless, surgical steel or 14-karat gold should be used for first piercings. However, remember that even 14-karat gold can contain nickel and may cause irritation in some people. Using surgical steel is still the safest bet to avoid pierced ear problems of this type.

Redness and inflammation, two other common pierced ear problems, can be prevented or treated if proper hygiene is practiced. After the prescribed healing time, the earrings should be removed and the holes washed with soap and water daily. Additionally, the holes should be cleaned with rubbing alcohol, and an antibacterial ointment may also be applied to the holes before the earrings are reinserted in order to prevent infection. If infection does occur, a physician may prescribe antibiotics to treat the problem.

Pierced ears are always fashionable, and the process is almost always safe, quick and convenient. It isn't at all difficult to care for newly pierced ears. However, it never hurts to be extra cautious and err on the side of caution rather than experience painful and inconvenient pierced ear problems.

How to Choose the Right Sunless Tanning Product

Sunless tanning products come in several forms. The efficacy and results of these methods vary. Prices also vary. Treatments can cost anywhere from just a few dollars for a sunless tanning cream, to as much as $100 an hour for a few sessions at a salon. With so many options for sunless tanning, it can be hard to decide which sunless tanning products are best.

Most sunless tanning aids are harmless, but none will prevent the skin damage caused by the sun and UV radiation. Additional precautions will need to be taken to prevent sun damage. Furthermore, methods such as tanning beds and tanning pills are controversial and thought to be unsafe. The FDA, in fact, has not approved most tanning pills. Another facet of sunless tanning products is how long they last. Spray tans will last five to seven days, while tans from creams or powders will wash off quickly.

There are three types of ultraviolet or UV radiation put out by the sun and by tanning beds and lamps: UVC, at 100 to 290 nm, UVB, at 290 to 320 nm, and UVA, at 320 to 400 nm. It is the UVA and UVB rays that are the most harmful to our skin. UVB is easier to protect against than UVA, but both cause very real damage. Going sunless does not guarantee against skin damage from UV radiation.

Another determining factor for which sunless tanning products will work for an individual is skin type. Not only will bronzers and cream and sprays give differing results for fair or darker skin, but fair-skinned people are more susceptible to burning when using sunless tanning means such as tanning beds or tanning lamps. The melanin produced by people with fairer skin, particularly redheads, does not absorb radiation as well as that produced by less fair skinned people, leaving these individuals more susceptible to sun damage.

Perhaps you want a suntanned look for just one occasion such as an evening out. Maybe you want something with more even coverage and a longer life. Or, maybe you've looked at all options available in sunless tanning products and decided to get your tan the old-fashioned way, after all. All of this is perfectly fine. If you choose the latter, however, be sure to take measures to protect your skin.

Natural Skin Care Tips: 10 Skin Care Tips Women Must Know (Part 1)

Right eating habits and the right natural care can do wonders for your looks and health. Here are some precious natural skin care tips which will make your skin glow round the clock.

1) Glowing Facial Mask: Having a tough time keeping your skin glowing? Well, here is an easy way to keep the radiance on your face intact. All you need is: a tbsp fuller's earth. 1 tbsp honey, 1 tbsp mashed papaya. Mix all these ingredients and put on face for 20 minutes then rinse off.

2) Gentle facial cleanser: Take a 1/2 cup of oatmeal or cornmeal and plain yoghurt (add enough yoghurt to form a paste). For a gentle facial cleanser, mix the ingredients, smooth over the entire face avoiding eye area. Wash off with warm water. Oatmeal is highly absorptive, hypoallergenic, and helps to soften skin. Oats have the best amino acid balance of all the cereal grains (amino acids work as water-binding agents in skin care products). Oats have also been clinically shown to help heal dry, itchy skin.

3) Hair Spray: Chop one lemon(or an orange for dry hair). Place in a pot with two cups water. Boil until half of the initial amount remains. Cool, strain, and place in a spray bottle. Store in refrigerator. If it is too sticky, add more water. Add one ounce of alcohol as a preservative and thenthe spray can be stored for up to two weeks unrefrigerated.

4) Hair Cocktail:

. For instant shine: Lightly beat two eggs mixed with some milk and run throuigh your hair. Leave on for five minutes, rinse and you will see a shine instantly.

. For Dandruff: Dissolve two aspirins in your dandruff shampoo and watch how it clears up. Use a good moisturizing conditioner afterward.

. For greasy hair: Use face powder. Put a little at the root of your hair before straying. If it is a serious problem, put the powder on heavily for 15 minutes wash completely, condition lightly, and style.

. Sweet shine: Honey applied in a small amount while washing the hair will give you a great shine.

5) Blackheads removal: Combine one fourth cup boiling water with one teaspoon of Epsom salt and three drops of Iodine. Let mixture cool until it's comfortable to the touch. Saturate a cotton ball with this mixture and dab on blackheads. This will allow the black heads to loosen so they can be easily squeezed with a gauze pad. Remember to apply a moisturiser soon after.

Natural Skin Care

You work hard to eat a healthy diet and exercise regularly. You know that organic foods can help you avoid ingesting nasty hormones and chemicals but did you know that these toxins are creeping into your system in other ways? Your moisturizers, eye creams, and make up may seem harmless, but check out the labels and you'll find a laundry list of tongue-twisting ingredients, many of which could be hazardous to your health. In a recent survey, conducted by Health, eighty three percent of responding consumers indicated that they would rather use all natural body products. The skin care industry is responding to this demand. The natural and organic skin care product sector has seen a growth of thirty nine percent over the last year. Some of these products may claim to be all-natural, while still containing a slew of chemicals and toxins. Here's what you need to know about natural skin care and how to determine if the product you are using is free of harmful chemicals.

Why Choose Natural Skin Care Products?

There is approximately six pounds of skin on your body which provides a porous membrane into your system. Dirt, dust, pollutants, and other environmental pollutants enter the body through the skin, providing a more significant gateway to your system than food. The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) found that 884 chemicals used in personal care products and cosmetics are known to be toxic. And a recent Canadian study in Pediatric Drugs found cosmetic and personal care products as the most common cause of unintentional poisonings of kids under six.

The chemicals and toxins found in most commercial skin care products also have a detrimental effect on the environment, although this effect is just beginning to be understood. In March, a team of US Geological Survey scientists showed that a variety of chemicals from personal care products were among 95 wastewater contaminants found in US waterways.

Why poison yourself and the environment with toxic chemicals and pollutants? Natural skin care products are healthier for you, for your skin, and for the environment. But many products may claim to be all-natural while still containing a number of harmful ingredients. Make sure you read and understand the product label to ensure that the product your using is as natural as it claims to be.

Reading the Ingredients Label

Organic personal care manufacturing needs strict standards and enforcement in order to be effective. Currently, some manufacturers claim their products are organic merely as a marketing gimmick. One look at their products ingredients clearly suggests otherwise. Only by tying organic beauty care closely to the National Organic Program standards can the &quot;lifestyle&quot; marketed by the manufacturers represent the values at the core of organic agriculture.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) classifies cosmetics into 13 categories, but it does not regulate them. According to the FDA, &quot;A cosmetic manufacturer may use any ingredient or raw material and market the final product without government approval.&quot; Seven toxins are banned, but many more known toxins and carcinogens are allowed in cosmetic formulations. Less than one percent of the FDA's budget is for the evaluation of skin care products.

Many commercial skin care products have been regularly found to contain toxic chemicals. Surprisingly, most personal care products are not tested for health and safety. And because the FDA does not regulate skin care manufacturers, questionable ingredients often make their way into their formulas. These ingredients may seem harmless in the short-term, but their chemical components are stored in the fatty tissues of the body where they accumulate and magnify over time.

Cosmetics and personal care products are marketed based on the quality and content of their formulas. Many products claim to be filled with expensive vitamins, oils, and perfumes. Others claim to utilize an all-natural formula. But how can you be sure that the products you buy actually contain the ingredients they claim to have? Read the label, right? But unless you happen to be a scientist or chemist, the ingredient list on most cosmetics and personal care products will look like a long list of mind-numbing, tongue-twisting names.

This is where natural and organic skin care products should stand out. If a product claims to be all natural, its ingredients should be easily recognizable as natural components. Also, the ingredients should be listed in descending order with the most prominent factors listed first. Scrutinize the first several listings in the product to be sure that they are the natural ingredients you are looking for. If a skin care product contains an ingredient that you are unsure about, write down it's name and do a little research. A quick online search should reveal it's true nature. As a consumer, you need to be on the look out for chemicals and toxic ingredients that can be harmful to your skin and your body. You would not even think about eating a food that contained chemicals or cancer causing agents. Don't let these toxins enter your system through your beauty product either!

Should I Have A Face Lift?

Good question! A face lift is major surgery and surgery means blood, mess, discomfort, stitches and time out to recover. A face lift is expensive too.

There are risks to consider, one is hematoma when the blood collects under the skin and has to be surgically removed. Damage to the nerves that control your facial muscles is another although this is less common. Slow healing time can also be a problem although this is found mainly in smokers. Oh! and don't forget the usual risks that are involved with anesthesia.

On the plus side, the effects of a face lift are quite dramatic. It is without a doubt the fastest and most permanent way of shedding your 'old' face and regaining some of that youthful beauty you were born with..

If you've considered these things and decided that the final outcome is worth it, then proceed, but first please ask yourself these questions.

Why do I want a facelift?

Am I doing this because its going to help me find the job that I really want?</B> This is a valid reason for going ahead. It shouldn't matter to those that hire people how old the applicant is or what they look like, but in the real world we know that these things do play a part. If you have a job that has a lot of public exposure, this may also be a good reason to proceed.

Am I doing this because my partner wants me to? Red alert! Never let anyone else talk you into having a facelift. It is a very personal decision and one only you should make. Ask yourself why are you with someone who values you only for your appearance. Honor yourself, you are more than your face! Perhaps you should be working on your relationship and leaving your face alone!

I'm thirty five and have lots of wrinkles around my eyes and cheeks, and my neck is all mottled

A face lift won't help this situation. You are better off exploring the avenue of laser resurfacing or even chemical peels, they will strip the old layer of skin off and reveal a smoother younger appearance. It sounds like you have a lot of sun damage, get educated on the use of sunblock! Its everybody's most important cosmetic.

I'm depressed and don't feel good about myself. Maybe a facelift will help me feel better?

It may for a little while, but it sounds like you have a self esteem problem. Learn to love yourself the way you are first. Then if you still feel a facelift would give your morale a boost, go ahead.

I'm in my early fifties and notice my face is starting to sag quite badly. I can afford the surgery and reckon I might just do this for myself. A good idea, you've thought it through and decided its something you want not something you need.

Find a professional surgeon in your area and follow all his/her advice on how to prepare for your face lift. Don't forget to mention any medication you are taking and if you are a smoker, stop two weeks before surgery is scheduled. It will speed your recovery time. Good luck!

Achieve Great Beauty Naturally And Win The Fight Against Aging

I usually smile with gratitude when friends (and even strangers) sincerely guess my age to be 15 years younger.

When they learn the truth about my fight against aging, they take notes and become converts. Yes, just like that!

Taking Care

The fight to extend human life is nothing new, and as we all know, people resort to various means to achieve this battle: from cutting out irresponsible habits to going under the scapel.

Scientists keep making significant discoveries and how best we can keep our body youthful and even reverse the aging process.

One denominator of these countless research is this: be aware of the changes affecting your body. As you grow older, it is important to be aware of the changes affecting your body. This is inevitable.

You need to know how to prevent problems occurring and how to respond to them should they surface.

Taking responsibility for your own natural health and well-being gives you a great self-confidence and makes you feel you are in control of events.

For example, you respond to your body when you suddenly feel thirsty and take the appropriate healthy drink, such as a glass cup of water.

You exercise regularly and know the level of your fitness; you take plenty of fruits and vegetables, simply said, you are conscious of what is happening within and without your body.

The implication of taking care is simply translated to your psyche. Your mind is settled in the fact that doing the right things keeps your energy levels up and this makes you feel younger and stress levels are kept at the barest minimum.

Controlling simple things that happen to your body will go a long way to keep your body from aging quickly. For example, red meat may be tasty and delicious, yet, time and again.

It's been proven that a diet rich in red or processed meat can greatly increase the risk of bowel cancer. This is even worse, especially for those who have cut out fruits and vegetables from their menu.

Try This!

Do you smoke?

Cut it out for a week and see how you feel in your body. I can bet you, giving up that chimney-stuff will not only keep more money in your pocket, but it will also make your body younger, your skin radiant and your lungs livelier.

Do you stuff on red-meat burgers?

Exchange the burger for fish and see your youthfulness shoot through the roof! Not only will you be gaining an advantage over potential bowel-cancer-causing processed meat , but you will be reducing your levels of "bad" fat intake and increasing your "good" fat intake.

Do you take alcohol?

Substitute your alcohol intake for ordinary water, or at best water with a hint of natural juice mixers. Do this for a week and you would be amazed and your energy levels and better health.

Friend, while trying these things, add the "Peruvian Ginseng" or maca to your dietary supplement, you would be amazed and the ease with which you will be able to give up these bad habits, especially if you take the supplements such as maca as you would take any food.

You can suck or chew it, instead of the cigarette or alcohol. Many of our customers say they love sucking it like candy instead of droping back into any bad habits and it has helped wean them over as well.

You Can Do This....

Anyone, and I mean YOU, can take a ten-minute brisk-walk a day. Not only would you burn off dangerous fat concealed under your skin, you would help dislodge the toxins lurking around in your body through the waste that would be generated from the simple exercise. If you make it a duty to take a ten-minute brisk-walk a daily, your body will starting winning the fight for youthfulness.

Other things to take note of are the free radicals in the body. While oxygen is vital for life existence, it can also be its poison. Why? This is because when oxygen is used for essential processes inside the body, it leads to the production of damaging molecules known as free radicals.

The most damaging characteristic of free radicals is their chemical structure in that they contain an unpaired electron. This means that they roam around the body searching for healthy molecules to pair with. Unfortunately this pairing process damages the host molecule and irreversibly changes the DNA (material that carries genetic information).

If these free radicals are allowed to damage to body cells like this over a long period of time, the result is extensive cell damage and aging, as well as diseases such as arthritis, heart disease, cataracts and cancer.

Finally, Friend, the excellent combination of natural health supplements such as the Booster's maca and Alive! goes a long way in the reduction of free radicals in your body.

Makeup Tips for Eyes, Lips and Face

When I hit my 30's, I decided to get more serious about skin care and makeup. I've become a regular at Department Store 'Bonus Days', when you buy an item and get a bunch of samples for free! Cosmetics and makeup can be fun, easy and inexpensive if you follow these tips!

Your Eyes:

1. For great looking eyes make sure to use powder shadows for a natural look and a eyeliner pencil for drama at night. Make sure the liner has a smudge tip at one end to get that smoky eye look. Only line the top of the eye is you're looking tired. You don't want to bring more attention to dark circles under the eyes. Neutral tones with a hint of color are flattering on everybody.

2. For sheen on the eyelids, dab a bit of Vaseline for a pretty reflective quality, as well as moisture.

3. Open up the eye with a gold/beige shimmery high lighter onto the brow bone.

4. Don't throw away cash on an expensive eye makeup remover! Find a pretty glass bottle and fill it with baby shampoo.

5. If your cream eye shadow dries out, use a few drops of water or mineral oil to soften it up again.

5. Potatoes, like cucumbers, will reduce the appearance of dark, under-eye circles.

Your Lips:

1. Use blush as a lipstick, then use clear gloss or lip balm over it. Longer staying power.

2. Natural ingredients have been used for centuries as makeup: apply beet juice to lips and cheeks as a stain,or mix it with melted bees wax to make your own lip balm! Cayenne pepper can plump the lips, but use with caution!

3. Use eye makeup remover to treat super dry, chapped lips. It's a great nighttime lip treatment!

Your Face:

1. For a longer lasting foundation try a product with silicone. The silicone creates a sweat-proof and smudge resistant second skin. For me, I find it helps with my rosacea because the live yeast extract has healing powers.

2. A powder bronzer under blush can really even out skin tone. I dab my brush in the bronzer, then into the blush and lightly cover my whole face.

3. For a new bronzer, use a foundation that is two to three shades darker than your skin tone and apply where you would use your bronzer. In a pinch you could use a brown eye shadow.

4. Papaya mixed with plain yogurt into a paste makes a great exfoliating mask for all skin types!

5. Use an egg white mask for a quick fix for diminishing the appearance of pores.

LED Photo Rejuvenation/Intense Pulsed Light/Infra-Red Light Affects Skin Rejuvenation

LED Photo Rejuvenation,Intense Pulsed Light or Infra-Red Light and it's Affects on Skin Rejuvenation

In order for your skin to continue to exist, it has to constantly reproduce new cells to take the place of the ones that are being shed.

People need certain wavelengths of light similar to the way plants need sunlight to thrive. Your skin has the ability to absorb light and use it as a source of energy to stimulate cellular regeneration.

LED Photo Rejuvenation or Intense Pulsed Light (P.R./IPL) is infra-red light which stimulates the cell activity; this increases Collagen and Elastin production. (The proteins responsible for strength and elasticity of the skin).

Photo Rejuvenation translates the process of plant photosynthesis into the workings of human skin cells, stimulating the body's own cells to build new proteins the same way plants use chlorophyll to convert sunlight into cellular building blocks.

Photo Rejuvenation flows light through your skin's epidermis to fibroblast cells, which produce such structural proteins as collagen and elastin. When the light hits the cytochromes inside the fibroblasts' mitochondria, it stimulates the cell's energy transport system. The cell produces more structural proteins, which in turn gives it the appearance of improved tone and elasticity.

Photo Rejuvenation sends light rays into the cells, which in turn excite the Mitochondria into producing up to 10 times more ATP. This fuels the cell's activities, which causes more of the needed Collagen and Elastin to be produced, as well as other needed materials for the skin.

ATP - Nature's Energy Store

All living things, plants and animals, require a continual supply of energy in order to function. The energy is used for all the processes which keep the organism alive. Some of these processes occur continually, such as the metabolism of foods, the synthesis of large, biologically important molecules, e.g. proteins and DNA, and the transport of molecules and ions throughout the organism. Other processes occur only at certain times, such as muscle contraction and other cellular movements. Animals obtain their energy by oxidation of foods, plants do so by trapping the sunlight using chlorophyll. However, before the energy can be used, it is first transformed into a form which the organism can handle easily. This special carrier of energy is the molecule adenosine triphosphate, or ATP. (Nobel Prize winner Paul May ? Bristol University).

The light rays that are emitted from infra-red light also come from the Sun. They are a natural light. The only problem with getting these light rays from the Sun alone is that you also get harmful Sun rays that can damage your skin more than do it good.

Using infra-red light you only get good helpful rays of light that help your skin produce the Collagen and Elastin it needs to continue to appear healthy, smooth and radiant. The more Collagen and Elastin you have in your skin the smoother, healthier and radiant it will look and feel.

Infra-red light also stimulates cells into producing other substances needed for repair. Dr. Harry T. Whelan says, "The light is absorbed by mitochondria where it stimulates energy metabolism in muscle and bone, as well as skin and subcutaneous tissue."

The Medical Collage of Wisconsin says, "Our laboratory has improved the healing of wounds in laboratory animals by using NASA LED light and hyperbaric oxygen. Furthermore, DNA synthesis in fibroblasts and muscle cells has been quintupled using NASA LED light alone..."

How Was This Discovered?

P.R./IPL was discovered accidentally by NASA about 40 years ago. Astronauts who became injured while in space would not heal until they were back here on Earth. Scientists didn't know the reason until plants were placed aboard space craft with the intent to grow food during long distance space travel. These scientists determined that the red LED lights that were used to encourage the plants to grow were in fact healing the astronauts' wounds! Now the astronauts who became injured while in space were healing before they got back to earth, due to the P.R/IPL. They concluded that the red spectrum of light is the healing spectrum and the ultra violet light spectrum are the damaging rays.

Winter Skin Savers

Do you have the winter skin blues? Is the itching and flaking driving you crazy? Don't worry; you can take steps to protect and soothe your body's largest organ. With proper care, healthy, glowing skin is achievable during winter. Whatever your age, follow these helpful guidelines throughout the season.

No matter how dark your skin, you still need to protect it from the sun's harmful UVA and UVB rays. Choose a sunscreen with SPF of 15 or more. Sunscreens containing Titanium Dioxide tend to leave darker skin tones looking &quot;ashy&quot;. A sunscreen gel is preferable and it absorbs invisibly into your skin.

I know it's tempting, but taking long, hot showers drain essential moisture from your skin, leaving it dry and lacking in water content. Limit your showers to about 5-10 minutes. (Tip: Use a leave-in conditioner, so you don't have to spend as much time washing your hair, but still be able to keep it conditioned.)

Wash your hands and face using lukewarm, not hot, water.

This winter, opt for a non-foaming cleanser which cleanses but does not strip away your skin's natural moisture barrier. You don't want that squeaky clean feeling you get with cleansing gels, which can leave your skin feeling dry and taut.

Invest in a great hand cream: it will help to keep your hands soft and smooth. If possible, avoid washing your hands frequently. Apply hand cream to your hands immediately after washing them to seal in moisture.

Your lips have no natural defense against the elements. Wearing a lip balm with SPF is essential even during winter months. Your lips tend to dry out faster during this time of the year, so make sure to re-apply as necessary. Licking your lips can cause them to dry out faster, too. As the saliva on your lips evaporates, so does your lips' natural moisture.

In general, and especially during winter months, avoid skin care products containing Alcohol. Not only is Alcohol an irritant, but it is drying, too.

Instead of exfoliating with AHAs, (Alpha Hydroxy Acids) wear a good water-based moisturizer to hydrate your skin and keep it from flaking. AHAs can be a great way to de-flake the skin's top layer, but they usually tend to dry out your skin. If you plan to use them anyway, don't overuse them.

Turning Back the Hands of Time

When you shop for an anti-aging cream at your department store's cosmetic counter or at a drug store, are you confused about the number of choices? Well, you are not alone. In a recent survey conducted by the American Academy of Dermatology, 94 per cent of the 2,079 American women surveyed are confused about over the counter and prescription anti-aging products as well as anti-aging treatments available at their doctor's office.

&quot;The best place for consumers to find answers to their questions about aging skin is from their dermatologist, since we are the experts in the diagnosis and medical, surgical and cosmetic treatment of aging skin,&quot; says dermatologist Arielle N.B. Kauvar, MD, Clinical Associate Professor of Dermatology, New York University School of Medicine, New York, NY. &quot;Potentially, women could save time, money and confusion by simply seeking out the advice of a dermatologist, rather than guessing what might work for them.&quot;

The survey also found that over 69 percent of women are concerned by the visible signs of aging, such as fine lines, wrinkles, and dryness, 47 percent want to improve the look of the skin around their eyes , and 18 percent want to improve the look of the skin around their mouth.

Over-the-Counter Anti-aging Products

"An alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) product can also help remove the dead outer layers of skin, leaving the face with a fresh, younger appearancek, says Dr. Kauvar. "AHAs are particularly beneficial for wrinkles around the mouth and eyes, which are two areas of the face where women would like to see the most improvement.&quot;

You should also look for over-the-counter topical products with the anti-oxidants, vitamins C & E.

&quot;But the most important thing consumers can do to prevent aging skin and further damage is to protect themselves from the sun,&quot; recommended Dr. Kauvar. &quot;Consumers should wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen that blocks both UVA and UVB rays from the sun, and has a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of 15 or higher.&quot;

Anti-aging Products by Prescription

To reverse the signs of aging consider using retinoids, a vitamin A cream that can help reduce fine lines, wrinkles and age spots.

&quot; As long as patients have realistic expectations of the kind of improvements they can achieve, both over-the-counter or prescription treatments remain a valuable tool in the treatment of aging skin,&quot; remarked Dr. Kauvar.

Cosmetic Treatments

Are you also confused by treatments offered by your dermatologist? More than 78 percent of the women surveyed wanted to know how long the anti-aging benefits would last and how invasive the treatments are.

Non-ablative laser skin rejuvenation plumps up skin when a laser or light source is absorbed by the water in the skin cells. Another treatment is microdermabrasion, where crystals of aluminum oxide on the skin are removed with a vacuum line, thus removing the outer layers of the skin. Chemical peels refer to a chemical solution placed on the face to remove the outer, dead layer of skin, leaving new skin underneath.

You may wish to try injectible fillers and botulinum toxin to reverse the signs of aging. injectibe fillers are injected in the skin to reduce winkles, furrows and hollows in the face. Botulinum toxin is injected to relax the muscles to soften frown lines, crow's feet and other wrinkles.

"All of these options are perfect for people with busy lifestyles who do not want the inconvenience of a long recovery,&quot; said Dr. Kauvar. &quot;Each of these procedures can often be performed in under an hour, require very little or no downtime, and allow healing to occur rapidly. Most important of all is that there is minimal discomfort to patients during these procedures.&quot;

Dr. Kauvar encourages patients who are considering a cosmetic treatment to ask their physician questions about:

All About Plastic Surgery

The plastic surgery has become a multi-million dollar one, as both men and women employ more and more extreme tools in order to reach the ever more ubiquitous image of perfection that torments us. It sometimes seems as though the tiny people of Hollywood have been constructed entirely out of plastic in a conspiracy to make the rest of us feel like ogres. And in a world where beauty is a highly rated currency, it is little wonder that many of us succumb.

And while plastic surgery is not a bad thing in and of itself, it is still an invasive procedure as dangerous as any other type of surgery, and should not be undertaken lightly. But if the growing number of people who choose surgery every year is anything to go by, then surgery is becoming the quick fix of the masses.

But if anything needs fixing, surely it is a society where people undergo risky surgery in order to feel okay about themselves. We pride ourselves on the advancements we make as a society every moment, and while attractiveness has historically always been of value, is it not now time that we rebel against the status of beauty as the primary currency in our society? But beauty is more powerful that ever, and combined with our enormous technological knowledge, we are at a point when we have the tools to look almost exactly as we wish.

Perhaps the world of 'The Stepford Wives' is really not so very far away. As people make appointments daily for surgery that will make them look like someone else, we are at risk of losing our individuality to a cult that simply wants us all the same. They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but it seems that as time progresses, we are all beginning to see through one blighted eye. What will we do once we are all finally beautiful? Perhaps then we will begin to look a little deeper. Or perhaps we our notion of beauty will change, as it has done countless time through history, and we will all be left to start from scratch again

Many people are burdened by what society has deemed &quot;unsightly&quot; hair. Shaving is only a brief solution to this problem and quickly leaves tell-tale stubble. Plucking or waxing are painful and the results do not last much longer than shaving. So what is the best way to permanently remove hair from areas such as the upper lip, chin, neck, armpits, forearms, back, chest, legs, or bikini line? Many people are now discovering the benefits of laser hair removal, a non-invasive procedure that removes unwanted hair.

However there are limitations on who should have laser hair removal done. For starters, the laser works by searching for hair follicles to destroy based upon melanin. Melanin is the pigmentation in hair and skin. Thus, it is harder to target hair that is red, white, gray or true blond, and will not be as effective. Furthermore, people with more melanin in their skin (those who have dark skin or are tanned) risk skin discoloration by undergoing laser hair removal treatment because the laser will target the melanin in the skin. Thus, the ideal candidate for laser hair removal is someone with pale skin and dark hair.

For people who decide to undergo laser hair removal, there are different settings that affect the outcome of the procedure. First, the laser technician can set the pulse length, and most will chose longer pulses as long pulsed lasers tend to be safer. Second, they can adjust the fluence according to your skin. Different types of skin require different energy levels. Third, the technician sets the delay between laser pulses. The difference this gives is the time that skin and hair follicles are allowed to cool between pulses. Fourth, different spot sizes can be chosen. Larger spot sizes will reach deeper to the follicle. Last, cooling methods are chosen. The procedure can be unpleasant because of the heat emitted so the skin can be cooled by gels, sprays or lasers that have cooling tips which are pressed to the skin.

Importance of Your Skins pH

One of the most important roles of our skin is to protect our 'insides' from the external environment, acting both as a barrier and a filter between 'outside' and 'inside'. In addition, the skin is involved in regulating our body's temperature, like when we have a fever or we're physically working hard, we tend to sweat, which is the body's way to attempt to lower the temperature.

Another important role of our skin is to protect us from harmful substances entering our body, and in eliminating toxins. This takes workload off our Liver and Kidneys to filter out by-products from our body's metabolism. The skin also breathes!

Hormones, Sweat glands and pH

The pores of our skin are made up of a combination of oil and sweat glands (sebaceous and sudoriferous glands) helping to keep our skin healthy and elastic. An excessive sebum secretion is often associated with oily skin and acne. This is particularly common in adolescents as the increased levels of sex hormones stimulate sebum production and secretion. When in balance, the combined excretion of oil and sweat from the skin's pores has a pH of about 5.5.

The Acid Mantle, Age and the importance of the skin's pH

This slightly acidic layer, also referred to as the &quot;Acid Mantle&quot;, is our body's first defence mechanism against bacteria invading it and is not a favourable environment bacterial growth to occur. This defence layer develops at puberty, which is why children are more susceptible to disease, viruses and fungal infections such are ringworm. The pH of children's skin is closer to neutral (pH 7).

At puberty, however, we start to produce more hair on our bodies. Hair follicles have an associated sebaceous gland or glands which become active as hair growth increases, causing changes in the skin's pH. The hormones that control sweat also become active and the whole surface of a teenager's skin is totally different to that of a young child. This is our body's way to increase our defence system.

The pH of normal, healthy human skin is somewhere between 4.5 and 6. However, this varies with age. Typically, newborns have a pH closer to neutral (pH 7) that quickly turns acidic in order to protect young children's skin.

In the late teens to early 20's, our Acid Mantle is well developed and provides good protection against potentially harmful, external environmental factors. Our skin usually looks healthy, heals quickly when injured and seems to take care of itself.

With increasing age however, the skin's pH becomes more and more neutral, and thus more susceptible to bacterial growth. This reduced acidity kills fewer bacteria than before, leaving the skin susceptible to bacterial growth and infections. The skin weakens as a result and begins developing problems with increasing age. (Interestingly, the pH value rises beyond 6 when a person actually suffers from a skin problem or skin disease.)

The aging process of the skin causes biochemical changes in collagen and elastin, the connective tissues underlying the skin, which give the skin its firmness (collagen) and elasticity (elastin). The rates of loss of skin firmness and elasticity differs from individual to individual, depending on their genetic makeup, general health, over exposure to the sun, skin care regime, or lack there of, and other factors.

As the skin becomes less elastic, it also becomes drier; the underlying fatty tissue begins to disappear resulting in the skin beginning to sag. Our skin is less supple, and wrinkles begin to form. At this stage, our skin is more easily injured, heals more slowly and tends to dry out more quickly.

The role of pH in Acne

As outlined above, the skin's pH is important and maintaining a slightly acidic pH of around 5.5 is critical.

The skin's pH value is one of the major contributors to acne and other skin problems. Propionibacterium acnes is a bacteria that normally lives on the skin and is a normal bacteria found in all persons regardless of the presence or absence of acne.

However, in individuals prone to acne, the number of P. acnes is greatly increased. It has been found that the growth of this bacteria is very much dependent on the pH value of the skin and its growth is at its minimum at the normal skin pH of 5.5. A slight shift towards the alkaline pH would provide a better environment in which it can thrive.

Importance of the skin's pH: Do's & Don'ts

One of the major culprits that radically alter the pH of the skin, is soap. Ordinary, commercially available soaps are highly alkaline (pH range 9-11) and raise the skin's pH to be much more alkaline. This can be adjusted by using products such as Wildcrafted Herbal Products' Wild Herb Toner or Milk of Roses Toner, depending on your skin type. These toners restore normal pH of the skin and thus provide an environment not conducive to the growth of bacteria. In addition, soap dries out the skin, because of its high alkalinity.

Thus if you choose to use a commercially available soap, you must restore the pH of your skin to prevent loss of moisture and the excessive growth of bacteria. It is important to remember that this applies to the entire surface of your skin, not just the face.

Instead of using ordinary soap, you need to use products such as the Skin Renewal Gel from Wildcrafted Herbal Products, which cleanses your skin, removing dead skin cells and leaving your skin's pH as it is meant to be. Following this with the use of a Toner will close the open pores, preventing blackheads and loss of moisture from the skin.

Other factors influencing your skin's pH

Another factor that helps in regulating your skin's pH is the presents of microflora on your skin. Staphylococcus epidermis is involved in the breakdown of fatty acids, and is therefore partly responsible for the acidic pH of skin. The use of ordinary soap, not only changes the pH of the skin to be more alkaline, effectively removing the protective acid mantle, but also kills the bacteria responsible for creating, at least in part, the acidic pH of your skin ? a double whammy.

It is therefore of great importance to have a good skin care regime in which high quality, natural skin care products are employed. There are a couple of simple steps to take before buying a particular brand of natural skin care products.

<ul>

<li>Identify the skin type(s) on the face. There are usually two or more. One skin type is usually isolated to the T-Zone (forehead and nose), the other applies to the rest of the facial skin. </li>

</ul>

<ul>

<li>Carefully select your natural skin care products. It is not good enough to choose products, which add natural ingredients to an otherwise non-natural base cr?me or lotion, as is the case in many supermarket brands. READ the label carefully, ask questions and if you are buying the products on-line, make sure there is a guarantee that allows you some time to evaluate the products before they need to be returned for a refund.</li>

</ul>

<ul>

<li>Look for manufacturers that have qualified herbalists or naturopaths on staff. These people generally do not support the use of artificial ingredients because it goes against everything they teach their patients, friends and family. ? For the most part, it's a pretty good indication that the products are pure, when natural therapists are in charge of the formulation of the products.</li>

Color Contacts: Fashionable, Dramatic and HOT!

"A great way to give you a subtle or dramatic change is with colored contact lenses. Manufacturers currently make a wide range of different color contacts in both prescription and non-prescription form with colors available to make your eyes sizzle!"

There are four types of colored contact lenses; visibility tints, enhancement tints, opaque color tints and light filtering tints, each offering something a bit different.

Regardless if you will be purchasing color contacts for prescription or plano (non-prescription) form you will need to have a valid eye prescription. In the United States it is law that you have a prescription for any contact lenses purchases, whether they are prescription or not. An eyecare practitioner can include any optometrists, ophthalmologist or even opticians (in some states). This is because it is necessary to achieve the right shape, lens size and material for each individuals eyes. Improperly fitted lenses can lead to serious eye problems and infection.

Once you have the proper eye prescription you are free to purchase your colored discount contact lenses wherever you please. It is also important to have a yearly check up to ensure your lenses are still fitting properly and you prescription hasn't changed.

Four Different Tints:

Colored contact lenses are available in four different tints. The visibility tint usually has a light blue or green tint added to the lens, for the sole purpose of helping you to better see the lenses during insertion and removal. The tint also aids in seeing if they are dropped, because the tint is so light they do not affect eye color. The enhancement tints are a solid (yet translucent) tint that is not much darker than the visibility tint but does affect the wearer's eye color. As the name implies the lenses enhance the existing color of the eyes. The enhancement tints are a nice yet subtle change for those just wanting to add a bit of intensity to their eye color.

Color tints are a deeper, opaque tint allowing the wearer to dramatically change their eye color. For anyone wanting a completely new look these are the color contacts to choose. Some of the lovely tints available come in colors such as; blue, gray, true sapphire, green, turquoise, Caribbean aqua, sea green and pacific blue to name a few. The various tints are usually made up with a series of colorful shapes, lines or dots to mimic the look of the natural eye.

Special Effects Contact Lenses:

Costume and theatrical lenses also fall into the same category of opaque color contacts. These special effect lenses are available in prescription and non-prescription form. The lenses are an excellent choice for any theatrical production, television or advertising needs, and for most people a great addition to any Halloween costume. The special effect contact lenses come in exciting designs like jaguar, cat eye, alien zebra, blackout (changing the eye color to black), white-out (changing the eye color to white), red hot, bloodshot and wolf designs. The special effect contact lenses are just as safe as your regular contact lenses provided they are cared for in the same way. Check with your eyecare practitioner for the proper cleaning regimen, and remember to never share your lenses.

Sports Contact Lenses Help Enhance Your Game:

The light-filtering tints are specifically made for use in sports. The special lenses enhance certain colors while muting others. One of the popular light-filtering tints comes in optic yellow, the color of tennis balls and golf balls. The tints allow for the ball to stand out against the background therefore making it easier to target, the colored contacts are also an excellent option for spectators.

Shy or Outgoing -There is a Color for You:

For those purchasing colored contacts for the first time deciding what color is best can be a difficult decision especially with all the options available. Personality has a lot to do with what color might be most appropriate for you. If you are a bold and outgoing person who doesn't mind being the center of attention, a color that is opposite your natural eye color might be best. An example would be someone with brown eyes wearing contact lenses in a green or blue shade. On the other hand if you are a bit more reserved and shy you may choose lenses that don't get you quite as noticed, an example would be a blue eyed person going with a shade of gray. The enhancement tints are great for a deepening affect that doesn't change your eyes at all, but still manages to give a sparkle to your look.

The advantage to the disposable color contacts is with all the available choices if you purchase a pair that you don't feel best suit your given personality and appearance you can always switch them to a different color at little cost.

If your colored contacts are for prescription wear you'll want to choose lenses that are compatible with your needs and find a wear schedule appropriate for you. Some examples of the different disposable lenses available are; frequent replacement contacts which are replaced monthly or quarterly; disposable lenses needing replacement daily, weekly or every two weeks and the traditional or reusable lenses which need replacing about every six months or longer. The replacement schedule that will be best for you is based on how your eyes behave while wearing the lenses. Some people need to replace their lenses more frequently as their eyes produce more protein and lipids (causing build-up on the lenses) than others. Whether you decide on a regular pair of lenses or disposables will depend on your individual needs.

Conclusion:

It is important when owning colored contacts to never share the contacts, even if they are just for novelty use in non-prescription form. This is because sharing lenses can transmit harmful bacteria leading to possible eye infections or serious eye conditions. Another reason to never share is that your contact lenses are fitted specifically for you, sharing with someone else can cause abrasion or eye damage.

The color contact lenses are a unique and fun way to change or enhance your look. With all the available colors it might be difficult to make a choice. It is important to remember that colored contact lenses are medical devices and if not properly prescribed and fitted a person could suffer discomfort, abrasion, swelling and in some instances permanent eye damage. Always treat your contact lenses with care to ensure proper eye health.

Discover The Make-Up Artist in You

As a licensed cosmetologist, I would like to share how to develop the art of truly being a makeup artist on your own face.

First, please toss out old ideas you may have had, as well as the &quot;one size fits all&quot; beauty tips you've picked up along the way. You don't want any pre-conceived ideas that may cloud your judgment.

Get in front of a mirror, with natural light. Cleanse your face, moisturize, etc. to get it ready for makeup. Get all your brushes, makeup gathered and pull your hair back out of the way. Imagine yourself as your own artist, with your face as the canvas upon which you are about to create a look.

There are 2 very important principals to remember. Light colors bring out, gives the illusion of an area being forward or front. Dark colors set back, creates a look of depth. Now, really study for your face for a few minutes, don't focus for now on any particular area, look at shape overall.

It might help to even write down notes about impressions you get. What areas seem to need brought out? What areas seem to need to be set back? An example would be a very round face would need an area in the cheeks set back (darker) to give the illusion of higher cheekbones, more slender face, at the same time using some lighter shades on the forehead area above the temples to also create a look of lengthening the face. A chin that is a bit undercut would need to be brought forth more to give the appearance of being more prominent than it is (lighter color).

When using lighter & darker colors for shading & highlighting, be sure to blend very well and use a light touch. Choose a foundation that is very close to your natural skin coloring. I personally have recently discovered mineral makeup (you can do an online search for several brands) or you can use any brand you want. I just have found these very easy to use for using light & dark colors where needed. Blend, blend and blend more, you don't want anything that looks obvious or any streaking appearance. Also if you're a light blonde, you wouldn't use something super dark for shading because you wouldn't be able to blend it in a way to look natural. Use a shade that's 1 or 2 shades darker than your natural skin tone, same with lighter shades, 1 or 2 shades lighter than your own skin tone.

Look at your eyes closely now. You want to create balance. Not every eye will look best with the typical medium color on the lid, darkest in the crease and highlighter on the brow. Again, look at your eye shape, what needs brought forth (light), and what needs to recede (dark). A person with deep-set eyes for example will do best with a light to medium shade on their lid, the lightest side in their crease, and a medium shade on their brow bone. The person with the deep-set eyes needs to avoid dark colors altogether, it will only accentuate the problem. Having the lightest color in the crease will help bring forth their eyes, making their eyes look bigger, wider and not set back.

This is the opposite pattern of what is typically told.

If a person has eyes that are close set together, you want light colors around the inside areas of the eyes (near the nose) to give the appearance of more space being there, making the eyes look wider apart, and darker colors on the outside edges.

Play with the different looks until you get the right one for your bone structure. It also helps to stand back away from a mirror, from across a room to look, as you get a better feel of overall balance than right up close. Don't be afraid to try new combos you hadn't thought of before, it might be the perfect fit for you!
